Grandma Hen was my individual puppet to work on in this project. She was part of the drunken bridal hen party in the pub during the puppetry performance, her character was to be the drunken grandma at the hen party rolling around on her bar stool, this is what inspired her to be a ball shape. I started by doing some paper-mache around a blow up beach ball as the base of her body and began building the shape of the rest of her body, neck and head with paper and tape. I took a pattern from the body by wrapping it in clingfilm and layering strips of masking tape over the hen. I cut the pieces out and placed them on a soft thin blue foam, which I then re cut the pieces from, and stuck them back together with Evo-stick, I repeated this process with the neck and head separately. Before working on the individual feathers I weighted the ball aty the bottom, filled it with expanding foam, and stuck the foam body of the en over the top of the ball and secured it down by scrimming the whole body of the hen, prepping it to be rendered.
